German Chocolate Cake
German Chocolate Cake
This classic dessert has American roots. From Sam German's creation of a sweet baking chocolate in the mid-1800s, to the first actual cake recipe attributed to a Dallas home cook in 1957, German Chocolate Cake has stood the test of time. Pastry chef and author Greg Case bakes three layers of moist chocolate cake, assembled with a custard rich with toasted coconut and pecans. Slice generously for heaven on a plate.

This cake is so moist & fluffy. It was my first time making custard, however, and I wish I had cooked it longer on the stove. It didn't set as well as I thought it would. So, my advice would be to cook it longer than you think you need to! It was still deviously delicious, despite somewhat runny custard.
