Beverages » TJ's Dessert Wine Picks
TJ Douglas, co-owner of The Urban Grape explains three methods/styles of dessert wines: Passito, Botrytis Cinerea and Icewine. Whadiddyasay? Don't fear this foreign winespeak. TJ describes these methods in layman's terms, and gives flavor profiles & pairing suggestions for each. Choose affordable bottles such as his Chardonnay dessert wine pick from Australia, or spend a pretty penny on the world's best dessert wine (or debatably, one of the best wines overall) — Bordeaux's Château d'Yquem.
TJ Douglas
TJ Douglas' career in foodservice started as a kid in Vermont who washed dishes to earn money "for mini golf and to take girls to movies." TJ has worked as a manager overseeing operations at a renown restaurant on Newbury Street in Boston. However, growing tired of working 90 hours a week in the restaurant business, he moved into wine sales, gaining knowledge of wine as well as industry connections through his many sales accounts. Today, he co-owns The Urban Grape with his wife Hadley, a boutique wine store that uses progressive shelving to make wine more understandable and approachable to all levels of wine drinkers. TJ and Hadley are excited to see their son grow up stacking bottles in the store and learning about people and the world through wine. They hope to create community, memories and joy when sharing their wine knowledge with customers.
