Any way that prevents air from getting in. This is generally the case with most perishables. If you plan on using the coffee within a week, you can store it in an air-tight container on your kitchen counter, in a cabinet, or in pretty much any place you choose. If you want to preserve the coffee longer you should store it in your freezer. This will give you 3-4 weeks (or a little under 2 months if we're talking about whole beans). Your best bet is to simply buy what you'll use in a week, keep it sealed air-tight on the counter, and buy more when you run out. This is best for flavor retention.
