A:You're making a crisp when you have a deep dish full of fruit with a crumb topping that's baked. The topping is the crispy part that makes it a crisp. You're making a cobbler if you have a bunch of fruit in a dish and then pour the batter in around it. The batter then rises during baking and the fruit is embedded within it. It's said to be called a cobbler because the result resembles cobblestones. Lastly, the betty (or brown betty) is layered spiced fruit with buttered bread crumbs. Once baked it's like a fruit bread pudding.
