La Adelita
Makes 1 Cocktail
Ingredients
Cinnamon Syrup*
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks, broken or crushed
Cocktail
- 6-8 sage leaves (reserve 1 leaf for garnish)
- 1 oz Cinnamon Syrup*
- ¾ oz blood orange juice
- ¼ oz lemon juice
- 1½ oz tequila (Herradura suggested)
- 1 dash Peychaud's bitters
- ice
How-to
Make Cinnamon Syrup
- Assure that cinnamon sticks are broken (or crushed)
- Combine in a saucepan with 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water
- Bring to just under a boil over medium-high heat (this may take 5-10 minutes), then reduce the heat and let simmer for 5-10 minutes
- Remove from the heat and let cool
- Strain and bottle. Store in the refrigerator. Will last refrigerated for 1-2 months
Make Cocktail
- Add sage leaves, cooled Cinnamon Syrup*, blood orange juice, lemon juice, tequila and bitters to cocktail shaker
- Fill with ice, cover and shake well
- Double-strain into a cocktail glass. Rim the glass with a fresh sage leaf and add to the glass if desired for garnish
