Grapefruit Vodka

Makes 1 liter (about 4 cups) infused vodka

Ingredients

  • 1 liter (about 4 cups) vodka
  • 1 pink grapefruit

Equipment

  • vegetable peeler
  • large glass container
  • fine-mesh strainer
  • bottles with lids for storing

How-to

  1. Using a sharp knife or vegetable peeler, remove the outer peel from a grapefruit, avoiding the white pith, and place the peels in a 1 liter glass container
  2. Cut the grapefruit into sections, and remove the flesh from the pith
  3. Slice the fruit into large chunks and place into the glass container
  4. Pour the vodka into the container, covering the fruit and peel
  5. Cover the container and store in a cool, dark place for 7-14 days, starting to taste at 7 days
  6. When satisfied with the strength of the mixture, pass through a fine-mesh strainer or coffee filter into bottles or vessel of choice with a lid or cap
  7. It is suggested to store the vodka in the refrigerator to preserve the flavor of the grapefruit, but it can also be kept at room temperature
